Frequent Questions

Can what I already know about the enneagram apply to the three triangle symbol?

Yes. The three triangle or triad symbol does require knowledge of the nine personality types. In fact, the Personality and Identity numbers are the same. With the triads there are two more inner triangles besides the 3-6-9 in the Personality symbol — the 1-4-7 and 2-5-8 triangles. The triad symbol complements the present symbol and deepens the spiritual foundation of the enneagram.

How do the five dimensions of consciousness relate to the enneagram?

In the Mind/Spirit consciousness paradigm, there are five dimensions: the ego, mental, body, emotions, and soul. The conscious Ideas center 5-6-7 numbers are mental and deal with communication. The subconscious Actions center 8-9-1 numbers are the physical link to the conscious ego and the unconscious soul. The unconscious Emotions center 2-3-4 numbers are the experiences and lessons of this lifetime.

Can the triads help me determine which type I am?

Yes. Ask yourself which enneagram center best expresses who I am: the Emotions center, Ideas center, or Actions center. Then, which of the three numbers in that center best describes your personality. The second center is likely to be the source of your Support number. The remaining number is the Survival number.
